In a new scientific achievement for the College of Engineering – University of Baghdad, senior student Baria Moath Mohsen from the Department of Petroleum Engineering presented a distinguished research project titled “Innovations in Monobore Well Design: A Step Toward Precision and Sustainable Drilling.” The study was showcased during the Iraq Petroleum Industry Workshop (IPIW 2025), held at the Babylon Rotana Hotel – Baghdad on October 27–28, 2025.

The student’s participation was supervised by Prof. Dr. Mohammed Saleh Al-Jawad and Dr. Farkad Ali Hadi. His research was presented in the form of a digital poster, focusing on the RODOG technology, which utilizes an expandable drill bit to implement the Monobore system in deep wells. This technology contributes to reducing drilling costs by up to 30%, while enhancing efficiency and sustainability in oilfield development operations.

The workshop was held under the patronage of the Prime Minister, with the attendance of the Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs – Minister of Oil, and the Prime Minister’s Energy Advisor, Mr. Fayadh Hassan Nema, in cooperation with the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) – Middle Iraq Section, the Iraqi Ministry of Oil, and participation from more than 90 national and international companies representing various sectors of the oil and gas industry.

This participation reflects the commitment of the College of Engineering’s students at the University of Baghdad to advancing the energy sector through innovative research ideas that align with global trends toward efficiency and sustainability in drilling and production operations.
